Edible Digestive Systems

After learning about the digestive system, we made edible models to demonstrate our understanding of this system in our body. We used a variety of candies and goodies to represent the major organs that make up our very long digestive system. We had a lot of fun in the process. Look at what we came up with!

Earthquake proof homes

While studying earthquakes, the eighth grade constructed earthquake "proof" homes using various materials. We were testing to determine if certain materials were better suited to withstand the vibrations of an earthquake. Unfortunately, our results were inconclusive, but we had a lot of fun constructing our magnificent homes.

Field Museum

The students in grades 6-8 enjoyed a trip to The Field Museum today. The purpose of our trip was for the 6th and 7th grade to visit the Ancient Egypt exhibit. These students have or are currently studying about the ancient worlds in History class. The 8th grade class explored the beauty of gemstones in the Grainger Hall of Gems and the amazing temporary exhibit, GOLD, after learning about minerals in Science class. And of course we had to stop and say hi to SUE.

Christmas 2010

Christmas with the 7th Grade 2010! We had a great time sharing what we learned about how other cultures celebrate Christmas, decorated our Christmas train, attended the annual Nativity Play, and watched the classic "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer".

Merry Christmas!

Glaciers on the Move!

During our unit on Antarctica and water properties, we conducted an experiment on the affect of slope on speed of a glacier.

Science Fair 2010

Congratulations to all of our 2010 Science Fair participants!

We had some amazing projects this year. We had everything from ants to plants, bacteria to batteries, and the solar system down to the waves. All of our students worked exceptionally hard on their projects this year and all of their hard work paid off. The enthusiasm each student has about his or her project was apparent in each presentation.

A special congratulation to all of our primary grades’ projects, all of these students worked exceptionally hard.

I would like to give a special thank you to all fourteen of our wonderful judges who volunteered their time out of their busy schedules to make our Science Fair so successful. We had judges from Northwestern University, Midwestern University, Loyola University, EPA, Argonne National Laboratories, BP, and several other private institutions; all of whom were impressed by the level of knowledge and the use of scientific inquiry by all of our students.
