Earth Day - Garden Opening Ceremony

St. Nicholas Celebrated Earth Day with activities for students and the unveiling of our new school garden. The students of 7th grade and those who participate in Garden Club worked very hard for the past few weeks to prepare for the unveiling of our new school garden. From building the raised bed...

to filling it with gravel...
then dirt ...
Before you knew it we were planting our plants into our new garden...

...around the trees...

...and in planters in front of both the old and new buildings.

Once all the plants were all in it was time to water...

As if that wasn't enough we collected food and supplies for the animal shelter, painted signs and a rain barrel, planted seeds, and prepared our presentations for our Earth Day ceremony.

Our Earth Day celebration was full of storytelling, games, and presentations.

The students of SNCS participated in a logo contest to represent our schools Green Initiative. The winning logo was unveiled at our Earth Day ceremony. The winner was Iryna Kryvdyk of the 7th grade.

SNCS's Green Initiative Garden Project was supported by many. In attendance at the unveiling of our garden included Fr. Nalysnyk, Fr. Kryvokulsky, Alderman Scott Waguespack, Commander Judy Martin, and parents and community members.
